Global Context

Global political tensions and crises remain persistent and, in many cases, are escalating—no longer just in the Global South, but worldwide. The challenges to ensuring a dignified life are increasing due to complex political, social, and economic developments, which are partly triggered by climate change. Global weather extremes increasingly indicate that environmental protection and resource conservation must become the norm rather than the exception. Many people no longer have prospects in their home countries and only see a future in migration. Whether this leads to a better life depends on many factors and remains to be seen.

We closely monitor global developments with great interest—welcoming positive trends with hope for continuous improvement, while viewing negative developments with deep concern, yet maintaining the drive to change them for the better.

Alignment

Alignment with International Development Policies
International and German development policies continue to respond to these global, regional, and national challenges. Our work is deeply guided by these frameworks:

Agenda 2030 & SDGs
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) continue to serve as our primary framework and orientation.

HDP Nexus
closely integrates humanitarian aid, development cooperation and peacebuilding (“Triple Nexus”).
Transitional Development Assistance (TDA) serves as a vital crisis management tool, providing a bridge between humanitarian aid and technical development cooperation.
German Policies
of the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwickung (BMZ)
of the German Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt)
guide our work.

Addressing Migration
German development policies continue to focus on initiatives aiming at mitigating the root causes and negative effects of migration and displacement.

Core Focal Areas
Strengthening resilience, fostering social cohesion, promoting gender equality as well as climate and environmental protection are seamlessly incorporated into project work and often serve as core focal areas.

Approach

Capacity Development
is one of the main success factors in development cooperation:
global citizen engagement, local participation, and the ownership of organisations, institutions, and individuals remain foundational.
Shared Global Responsibility
Political education, alongside social and political engagement aimed at fostering responsible and sustainable behavior towards our society and environment, remains a top political priority. Sustainable development must take place everywhere, not solely in the Global South.

Evidence-Based Impact
Continuous impact measurement is imperative to gather evidence of project and programme effectiveness. This serves not only as a tool for accountability but also as a steering instrument that facilitates learning processes, allowing us to adapt concepts to global and local developments.
Resource Efficiency & Innovation
The depletion of global resources demands high efficiency. Identifying synergies, sharing resources, and expanding networks are indispensable. Furthermore, the integration of digital applications and AI remains highly relevant, as does carefully weighing climate protection aspects (such as our carbon footprint).
