>>TREASURE<<
Experimental Poetry. Hannah Reber. 2017.
>ABOUT THE PROJECT
„Treasure“ is an experimental poetry work by Hannah Reber. The artist used a neural machine translation engine and online text recognition tools. Reber wrote the first verse of the poem herself, then she translated and converted it online, and repeated this process for every following verse. The artifacts of this projects are multimedial and intercorrelated, which mirrors the experimental process. The art work „TREASURE“ has three different physical /medial states: 1. text / transcript / poem, 2. binary / code / digital and 3. sound art / installation / poetry.
>ARTIST STATEMENT
Hannah Reber describes her work as experimental investigation of a phenomenom which the artists calls „digital systems“. Her current (late 2017, early 2018) work about „digital systems“ is based on the system theory of Niklas Luhmann and expandes this theory to include the phenomenom of the world wide web and digital processes. While most of Reber's latest work uses a more analytical style, this experimental poetry work shows a very poetic and playful approach of exploring her leading questions about how digital systems could be encountered and described.

Zwischen den Zeilen, zwischen den Sprachen,
in Babel geboren, in Wirklichkeit verloren,
vielleicht,
wenn wir sie nicht fürchten,
die Intelligenz, die sich selbst finden wird,
als Niederschlag,
aus der Cloud, die wir nähren.
Between the lines, between the languages,
Born in Babel, really lost,
We look back and forth,
The next stage of development, the new existence,
Which we are currently feeding large data,
The cloud,
It forms,
In the phase transition forms, we see it,
And can not control it,
It springs from us and will find itself,
When we approach them, give her the roots and wings,
We are the swarm,
The microbes that form, the jellyfish in the sea,
From this,
maybe,
If we do not fear them,
The intelligence that will find itself,
As precipitation,
From the cloud we nourish.
